Mas-Wrestling with the whole planet
European National mas-wrestling federations make up half of all members of the International Mas-Wrestling Federation and, as a rule, represent the continent at numerous international competitions quite widely. This time we will see athletes fr om the following countries: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Hungary, Germany, Georgia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Ukraine, Finland, Czech Republicand Estonia. At the same time, the most numerous teams will be fr om Hungary, Latvia, Serbia and Ukraine.
North America is represented by two countries: the United States and Canada. The United States of America, as always, will come led by the legendary Odd Haugen, who never ceases to amaze us with its vitality. This year he will take part in the tournament among Masters. Thus, he will set an example to his young mas-wrestlers, who will perform in several weight categories. In their ranks there will be strong representatives among women. With a maple leaf on her chest, a red-haired beauty from Calgary Bailey Deschene will come out to represent Canada.
The leader of the South American mas-wrestling federation, Vilmar Oliveira, will also bring along participants from two countries of the continent - 6 athletes from Brazil and 1 from Uruguay. Temperament beats them over the edge. All of them are eagerly awaiting the test of cold and longing to meet with the Yakut audience. We hope that the local public will give them a warm welcome.
Asia gives the same number of participating countries as Europe - 17.
In addition to the usual countries such as Bangladesh, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Sri Lanka, new ones will arrive. For the first time, participants from Afghanistan, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine and Syria will try their hand on the international platform. The performance of athletes from this “region of tension” can be viewed as a direct implementation of the instructions of President Vladimir Putin, as a contribution to peace, as a continuation of the peacekeeping mission with which the delegation of the All-Russian and International Federations flew to the Syrian Arab Republic in February this year. The core of the Middle East bloc will consist of advanced youth from these countries studying in Russia.
After the World Festival of Youth and Students in Sochi, student youth, inspired by the ideas of uniting the entire planet of youth around the Russian sport, created a new youth organization that is based within the walls of Chuvash State University. Thanks to social networks and advocacy work among young people, students from Tajikistan and Turkmenistan studying in the capital joined this organization. Here at the Moscow State Regional University actively promotes the mas-wrestling participant of the World Festival of Youth and Students in Sochi, the winner of the youth tournament, and now active propagandist of the sport Yevgeniy Petrov. The enthusiastic spectator of this year’s university tournament was LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky. The winners in the weight categories from among the foreign participants were selected on this day for the World Championship in Yakutsk. We will consider the participation of young mas-wrestlers from the student environment as a legacy of the Festival of Youth of the entire planet. The seeds sown then gave their fruits. Young people in the near future intend to fully develop mas-wrestling in their countries.
The African continent will be represented by students from Egypt from the same organization. Unfortunately, our friends from Benin, Tanzania and Madagascar, wh ere mas-wrestling enthusiasts work, were unable to find sponsors for the fare. We live in the real world, so do not complain about this. We will not be discouraged, because the world mas-wrestling has far-reaching plans and our meeting in the future is inevitable.
The only participant from the green continent is Timothy OShea from Queensland. He is directed by the Federation of Mas-Wrestling of Australia and Oceania. Timothy has experience in mas-wrestling not only in his hometown wh ere the Brisbane Mas-Wrestling Federation works under the guidance of Sjoerd van der Berg, but also tried himself internationally. He is a participant of the International tournament among the Asia-Pacific countries “Kolmar Cup” last year in the city of Vladivostok.
Competitions will be held in all twelve weight categories among men and women and promise to be very interesting. Many participants will come to the mas-wrestling homeland not for the first time. Four years have passed since their participation in the 2014 World Championship. Athletes for this period did not waste time in vain: they hone their skills, gaining competitive experience in numerous international competitions in different countries.
