In different countries on different continents, in parallel with the promotion of mas-wrestling among adults, work is underway to attract young people. The strong future of mas-wrestling lies in Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, India, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Russia, Slovakia, and Uzbekistan. The Asian and European Championships among boys and girls have already been included in the official calendar of the International Mas-Wrestling Federation.
In Russia, basically only the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) is entirely covered by school mas-wrestling. But we can say with confidence that our movement is expanding. These days, athletes fr om all over the country came to the capital of Tatarstan to take part in the decisive stages of the All-Russian project “Challenge of the First”. As part of the finals of the sports projects of the Movement of the First, a mas-wrestling festival was also held with demonstration master classes by titled Chuvash mas-wrestlers. We are proud that our dynamic and spectacular sport has entered the line of disciplines of the global all-Russian project. This federal project brought together more than 1,500 participants from 63 regions of Russia. This was a unique opportunity for everyone who wanted to test their strength and get acquainted with the exciting world of mas-wrestling.
You may ask, how are things overseas? We answer.
The Mas-Wrestling Association of Canada under the leadership of Andrew Bolinger took on the organization of the training process, preparation and holding of mas-wrestling competitions in a school environment in the Canadian city of Calgary. Several tournaments were successfully held. We regularly receive videos and photo reports from him. Thus, quite recently, fights called Grizzly Games took place at the Bearspaw Christian School in Calgary, wh ere mas-wrestling was one of the sports along with such disciplines as strongman and powerlifting. The organizers held competitions on five stop boards. Participants and spectators were delighted.
The delegation of the International Mas-Wrestling Federation today met in Calgary with the leadership of the national Mas-Wrestling Association and the physical education teacher of the above-mentioned school, wh ere plans for the development of school Mas-Wrestling were discussed. A decision was unanimously made on long-term cooperation. At the beginning of the school year, a group of 60 students will be selected who will express a desire to engage in mas-wrestling seriously. The specialized university in Churapcha will provide methodological assistance throughout the year. In April-May 2025, it is planned to move fr om theory to practice - a match meeting will be held between Canadian schoolchildren and their peers the Arctic regions of Yakutia. The age of the participants is set at 14 years. Qualifying competitions for schoolchildren in Yakutia will be held in Zhigansk, the homeland of the first Olympic champion from the Sakha people, Roman Dmitriev. Olympic champion Pavel Pinigin will become the guarantor of this project.
To support this project, JSC Railways of Yakutia gives local leaders and numerous mas-wrestling enthusiasts T-shirts depicting comic book heroes according to the rules of mas-wrestling. Currently, an educational publication about mas-wrestling in the form of comics is being prepared for printing, adapted for minor children, wh ere they can get acquainted with the Yakut sport in a fun way and be inspired to practice. This entertaining book tells how three friends from different countries, Zach, Alisa and Aital, learn the basics of a new sport together and then share their knowledge with their peers around the world.
Our cute cartoon characters have real prototypes. The image of the inquisitive Alice is copied from a wonderful girl from Canada named Courtney Hollihan. Aital, one might say, was “played” by the merry fellow Chinzorig Munkhtuya from Mongolia. And Zac is the spitting image of Zacarias Chioka from Angola. Many of you can also easily recognize other characters, because we have kept their real names. All of them are famous and active mas-wrestlers. In our fictional story, they are only 12-14 years old and everything is still ahead of them...
Taking this opportunity, we would like to invite potential sponsors to cooperate to publish a visual and easy-to-understand method of teaching mas-wrestling.
We encourage everyone to join us! Let's make this world a better place together! The world of mas-wrestling is vast, it has no boundaries! Neither geographical nor creative. The most interesting is yet to come!
