Mas-wrestlers from different countries arrived in Bardejov to honor the memory of Marcel Matej

16.08.2024
The tournament in the Slovak city of Bardejov is special for all of us. It takes place in the city where our colleague, head coach of the national mas-wrestling team of Slovakia Marcel Matej lived and worked.

Our first meeting happened in 2018 when the team of Slovakia arrived to the far northern city of Yakutsk for the 3rd World Mas-wrestling Championship. There Marcel brought to the platform an unknown athlete, who in a few minutes showed off herself,  winning a gold medal. On the mas-wrestling world level a bright star lit up - Jana Vaskova. And raised her and inspired for victory Marcel Matej.

Thanks to the coaching talent of Marcel, world sport knows a whole group of wonderful Slovak mas-wrestlers such as Attila Kitanovic, Oliver Kurek, Emma Mishovchikova, Martin Lovicek, Natalia Mateyova. Almost all of them will be competing tomorrow.

The number of participants was limited. Only those selected by personal invitations of the Slovak Mas-wrestling Association could participate. Brazil, Hungary, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Poland, Russia and Slovakia. Athletes arrived from these countries.

All guests were provided with transfers at the airports of Budapest and Bratislava, accommodated in the downtown near historical sights included in the UNESCO cultural heritage list.
