Friendly meeting of Mongolian and ASAU mas-wrestling teams

13.11.2024
On the 12th of November, 2024, a historic event took place within the walls of the Arctic State Agrotechnological University in Yakutsk - the first international mas-wrestling tournament in the format of a friendly match between the university students and members of the Mongolian national team.

The Mongolian team held a friendly match against the student team of the Arctic State Agrotechnological University (ASAU) as part of the training camp taking place in Yakutsk. Before the competition, coach Aisen Molukov showed the leadership of the Mongolian Mas-wrestling Federation – Menkhsuren Erdenebaatar and Dmitry Baishev – the gym equipped with all the necessary equipment for tug-of-stick training: pulling blocks, leg press machines, wrist strengthening tools, as well as specially designed equipment for maneuvering during matches. The gym is very bright, with panoramic windows overlooking the racetrack, where students jog in the summer. It goes without saying that ASAU students are fortunate that the university administration pays a lot of attention to the physical education of students.

The match meeting began with a greeting of the teams, all participants shook hands as a sign of respect. At the grand opening, the guys were greeted by the head of the Department of Physical Culture and Sports Dmitry Platonov, the president of the All-Russian Mas-wrestling Federation Mikhail Gulyaev. The anthems of Russia and Yakutia that were played made a special festive atmosphere. The President of the Mongolian Federation Menkhsuren Erdenebaatar thanked the Sakha people for the generous gift - mas-wrestling, which strengthens the friendly ties between our countries. The Chief Referee of the competition Tatiana Dyachkovskaya expressed the wish that such meetings would be regular and concluded her speech with mongolian phrase "Mas-wrestling - Mandtugai!" The guests responded to the battle cry of mongolian mas-wrestlers with loud applause. The honorary guest of the tournament was the rector of the Churapcha State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports Innokenty Gotovtsev.

Right after after the opening, members of both teams exchanged their gifts. It is a great idea instead of the aggressive face to face, used to be in other martial arts in order to attract spectator’s attention as a show, our athletes came out to meet their opponents with a wide smile, shook hands firmly and gave souvenirs as a memento of their meeting. A great find by the organizers.

The start of the competition did not bode well for visiting athletes. The gap in the score quickly increased not in their favor. But little by little the situation began to improve. The score began to fluctuate: it is promised victory either to the future farmers or to the sons of the Great Steppe. The intrigue remained until the very last meeting, when the leader of the Mongolian national team, Unurbat Tsetsgee, a medalist at the World, European Championships and World Nomad Games, came to the mas-wrestling board. At that time, the team score was equal - 7:7 and the outcome of the stubborn confrontation should have been decided by the final match.

The Mongolian athlete lost the first fight and lost quite easily, which sowed doubts in the ranks of the spectators and gave hope to ASAU fans. But in the end of the second fight, he equalized the score with Olympic calm. It was an intrigue of intrigue. Just think about, the overall score is equal, and besides, in the decisive match it was also equal. And the fate of the Winner's Cup depended on the right attitude of Tsetsgee – will remain in the University Museum or taken to Ulaanbaatar. To Unurbat’s credit, he managed to pull himself together to confront a worthy opponent, confidently snatched «mas» from his strong hands and thereby brought his team the desired victory! The joy of the guests knew no bounds. They are, of course, worthy of this victory.

And yet, the most important achievement of day for the Mongolian side was not the Winner’s Cup, but the decision of the rector of ASAU Valery Fedorov about the possibility of studying of Mongolian guys at the university under his jurisdiction on a free basis. At the same time, they will be able to continue practicing their favorite mas-wrestling and strengthen the student team. Such an unexpected super prize!

Long live sports friendship! Long live our mas-wrestling, bringing such positive emotions in these difficult times!
