Mas-wrestling veterans are ready to take to the Moscow platform!

26.04.2025
The Commission for admission of participants to the III World Mas-Wrestling Championship among veterans has completed its work. The pairs of the first round have been determined.

Mas-wrestling is a young sport, but it is maturing every year. It is time to seriously think about how to extend the sports longevity of mas-wrestlers. For this reason, the International Mas-Wrestling Federation, starting in 2023, began holding meetings of mas-wrestling veterans on world-class platforms. In order to attract more participants, amendments were made to the current International Mas-Wrestling Rules and the number of weight categories in veteran age was increased.

The World Championship among veterans was to be held in the city of Tskaltubo in Georgia, but due to the unstable political situation in the cities of arrival of athletes, it found a new venue - in the hero city of Moscow.

The main contingent of participants in the World Championship is from Russia. And this is not surprising, because it was here that our wonderful sport was born, which united the whole world around itself. Russia will be represented by 11 subjects: Bashkiria, Krasnodar and Krasnoyarsk, Moscow, Samara, Sverdlovsk Regions, North Ossetia-Alania, Chuvashia, the cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg.

The international format of the competition was provided by the team that arrived from Georgia consisting of: Zviadi Gvenetadze, David Zumadze, Zurab Khachapuridze.

The championship is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, and the participation of Georgian athletes is symbolic. The Soviet people defeated German fascism under the leadership of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief Joseph Stalin, originally from Gori. With the words "For the Motherland! For Stalin!" the fighters went to mortal combat in those fateful years. The Victory Banner over the Reichstag was hoisted by Georgian Meliton Kantaria and Russian Mikhail Egorov.

The older generation remembers well the film "Father of a Soldier" about the story of father and son Makharashvili, who went to the front to defend the Fatherland. The Georgian people, along with others, made a great contribution to the Victory in 1945. A deep bow to our grandfathers and great-grandfathers on behalf of the younger generation. Today, we are writing another history with our Georgian colleagues – the history of sports brotherhood, mutual respect and support. The International Mas-Wrestling Federation sincerely thanks the President of the Mas-Wrestling Federation of Georgia Mamuka Tuskadze for cooperation in difficult times of global reorganization.

The Admission Commission worked today at the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) in Moscow. The Chief Secretary of the championship Aina-Katerina Anufrieva announced at a meeting of the panel of judges that she has no comments on the declared participants and announced the pairs of the first round of the competition.
